In 1865, a Law excluded these woodlands from the confiscation, but in 1869 other Law included them on it. The Government promised that Valsaín would not be sold without permission of the Parliament, but it didn’t fulfill that, and sold seventeen “matas robledales” (oak woodlands) in 1870-1871. Then the Forester Engineer Roque León del Rivero denounced irregularities in the sales and asked for annulment. There were debates in Parliament, and the press revealed there were connections between purchasers and General Serrano, Regent of the Kingdom. The Council of Ministers finally annulled the sales in 1873, and, in 1877, the Crown recovered all the woodlands (except three of them), and Valsaín was definitely excluded from confiscation.

Key words

Valsaín (Segovia, Spain).
